Sponsoring

A sponsor is someone usually in a 12 step program who has worked through the steps. Sponsors are there to help others in recovery, to guide them through the steps, to help them through tough times, and to give their experience, strength, and hope.

If you need a sponsor, I’d be happy to help you if I can. If we develop a sponsor/sponsee relationship, this is what would happen:

First and foremost this is your recovery program. I’m not there to make you do anything. There are no rules and no “have to’s.” However, if you would like to work with me, I would suggest checking out local OA meetings in your area. I may be able to help you some, but meetings would be a great foundation for your recovery. Meetings can give you a lot of things that I cannot.

If we work together, we’d probably contact each other via email although, if you are comfortable, we could set up phone meetings.

From then I would simply guide you through the steps if you choose to work them. I’d be there for you if need be. I’d share my experience, strength, and hope. I’d help you to the best of my ability. But remember that recovery is a commitment. You must want it for it to work, and you must work it for any positive results to happen.
